It all began with an invitation to illustrate a children’s book about the endangered Red Wolf of North Carolina. What I learned was how much we don’t know about these animals that we have nearly driven to extinction out of primal fear, greed, and carelessness. Only through progressive stewardship has North Carolina slowed what could be inevitable, the extinction of a beautiful native creature.
